It's easy to become isolated when partners and friends pass on or when family members don't live close by. And if you're unable to get out or you're unwell, it can be hard to meet people. Just having someone ask about your day can make all the difference to how you're feeling. Looking forward to a good conversation can really brighten up the day.
Our Caring Caller programme is a telephone friendship service. We match volunteers with clients around the country who would benefit from regular connection. Our specialty teams support members of your own community, with volunteers and clients being able to connect in Samoan and/or English.
This volunteer Team Leader position is integral in ensuring our programme provides both our volunteers and clients with a seamless experience by supporting our incredible Caring Caller volunteers. The role involves:
- Attraction, recruitment, and training of new volunteers
- Providing support and mentoring advice to your team of volunteers
- Ensuring all clients are receiving compatible matches that are meeting their needs
- Providing reporting to relevant St John staff
- Maintaining strong relationships with local Area Committee and attend meetings as required/invited
- Organising recognition events, meetings, and training for the team

What skills and training do our volunteers have?
This role is flexible and can work around your availability, ideally you will be able to commit at least 2-3 hours per week. You have the option of joining as a Caring Caller and being matched with suitable client/s however, this is not mandatory.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Excellent communication skills, an empathetic personality, and a genuine interest in the well-being of others
- Previous team management experience
- Administration experience
- Competent computer skills
- Over 18 years of age
Successful applicants will receive full training and membership of Hato Hone St John (which gives free ambulance service for immediate family).
